For centuries, Shōgi (Japanese chess) has tested the minds of warriors, scholars, and strategists. Now, it’s your turn to step into the game! Join Nihongo no Niwa Japanese Language School as we celebrate art of shōgi with the South African Shōgi Kai, run by Nihongo no Niwa Japanese Language School. Whether you’re new to Shōgi or looking to refine your skills, these regular meetings are designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of this historic game in a welcoming and interactive environment.
Our hands-on approach will guide you through the basics of Shōgi’s unique mechanics, including piece movement, promotion, and strategic game-play. With keen instruction, guided practice games, and a chance to participate in a mini-tournament, you’ll not only learn the game but also experience the depth and excitement that has captivated players for generations.
